Peppermint Oreo: Peppermint flavored ice cream mixed with OREO® cookie pieces.
Carrot Cake: Light cinnamon flavored ice cream with cream cheese frosted homemade carrot cake pieces.
German Chocolate Cake: Chocolate flavored ice cream with coconut, pecans, brownie pieces and caramel revel swirled through.
UPDATE: Our Bettendorf location is back open!
We just had an employee test positive for Covid-19 at our Bettendorf location. This employee has not worked since the weekend and did not get it at work. We are going to open again tomorrow (Wednesday, September 30) at 5:00 p.m. During this time we will be deep cleaning the store and contact-tracing to determine which other employees need to be tested. Thank you!
It goes without saying that this year has been a little different in a number of ways, but since our stores reopened on May 11, we have not been selling scoops of ice cream the traditional way… on top of a cone. We have only been serving dips in cups to-go for a number of reasons. The main reason being the fact that it was nearly impossible to hand over a cone to a customer without hands touching.
We have decided to start selling cones again, but it is going to be in a slightly different way. You can now buy cones that have been put in bags prior to being sold. Our Cake Cones and Sugar Cones will be available for purchase in bags of three for $.50 per bag, and our Waffle Cones can be purchased individually in a bag for $.75 each.
We want to thank all of our customers for their understanding as we are trying to navigate these strange times. We are doing our absolute best to continue delivering the quality and experience you expect from Whitey’s, while staying as safe and sanitary as possible.
Our 53rd Street store in Davenport is back open starting Sunday, September 20! We are still waiting on a few employees’ tests results, but all employees working have tested negative (or were never exposed) and the store has been deep cleaned. We are continuing to take every precaution to ensure our employees’ and customers’ safety and we are thrilled to be back open!
When it rains, it pours… we now have an employee who tested positive for COVID-19 at our 53rd Street location as well. Again, it was not caught at work and they have not worked at the store since the weekend. No one else is showing symptoms, but we are going to close the location for a few days to clean the store and give the employees who worked time to get tested. Thank you!

We were just informed that an employee at our Eldridge location has tested positive for COVID-19. This employee contracted the virus outside of work has not worked at the store since the weekend. Luckily at this time no other employees are showing symptoms.

After 33 years, Whitey’s Ice Cream has officially closed its location at North Park Mall in Davenport, IA.
The store, which opened in 1987, originally closed on March 19th due to COVID-19 and has remained closed since that time. With the lease ending soon, the decision was made to permanently close the store a couple months early.
“While we are saddened by this closing, we knew it was the right time,” said Jeff Tunberg, co-owner of Whitey’s Ice Cream. “We are thankful for the 33 years we had with this store and hold many dear memories of our time at North Park Mall.”
Jon Tunberg, co-owner of Whitey’s, added that “Whitey’s would like to thank each and every customer for their business at this location over the past 33 years. Additionally, we want to thank all of our extraordinary employees who helped build this location into a fantastic store.”
